Watch this video from youtube. Yes, it’s a Marine Corps commercial, but I would like you to listen to what the narrator is saying and I want you to connect it you. Connect it to you and how your fraternity/sorority is. Are you a band of brothers/sisters? To you do whatever it takes to protect your brotherhood/sisterhood?

“Semper Fi! Do or Die!” You hear this alot when you are around Marines. They say this alot when something good happens or when something they know is going to be tough. They scream at the top of their lungs and motivate themselves and other Marines around them. Most people don’t know what they mean by the motto “Semper Fi”. It’s Latin for “Always Faithful”. Yes, it is the motto of the Marine Corps, but it’s more than that, its a way of life for the Marines. They are always faithful to the Corps and to the brotherhood of their fellow Marines. They always take care of the warrior beside them and do what ever they need to help them stay alive. They motivate each other to become the best Marine they possible can. And that’s why the United States Marine Corps is the world’s best fighting force.
This is something that we all could learn. Yes, we are not in the military and we don’t have to worry if we won’t make it home. But, living up to the motto, “Semper FI”, will help any chapter in this nation. I believe if you want to be a good leader in Kappa Kappa Psi/Tau Beta Sigma, you must live each and every day faithfully. Being a leader in Kappa Kappa Psi, you have to show that you care and you are willing to do anything to help your chapter become the best it can be. You don’t have be the President or the VPP, if you are there for a brother/sister that needs help, then that makes you a leader. Being their to help the band when no other brother/sister can, you are a leader. When you are already in Kappa Kappa Psi/ Tau Beta Sigma, you are already a leader. The band members know that you serve the band to the best of your abilitly. You show that you are always faithful. Kappa Kappa Psi is a brotherhood that needs to be always faithful and help motivate others. It’s just like the Marine Corps, just without the bullets and bombs. We need to help motivate other brothers/sisters to become the best member they can possibly be. Motivate the band to become the best band it can be. There is no such thing as an ex-Marine. And there is no such thing as an ex-KKPsi member. When you earn to become a member of KKPsi, you will always be a member. Through the hard times and the easy times during your process of college and life, being faithful will help you in every aspect and you will gain much respect from yourself and others around you. You can become so much more if you are always faithful.
One of the Marine Corps says is, “First To Fight”. I want to connect this to Kappa Kappa Psi. Are we “First to Fight” for our band and our fraternity? We must stand for what we believe as a fraternity and show that we will continue the legacy of our founding fathers. We are first to show and the last to go. We must fight mentally, our strength, and emotionally for this fraternity. We need to be there first to fight for our brother/sisters when they need it. If we can not do that, then we fail as a brother/sister and as a fraternity. If you believe that a member/chapter is doing the wrong, you need to be the first to fight and be faithful to the oath you swore. It also shows that you care about the person/chapter.
I would like your opinion on this. Do you motivate younger members in your fraternity/sorority? To you think you are semper fidelis, “always faithful”, to your fraternity/sorority? Are you “First to Fight for you chapter and brothers/sisters? Are you Semper Fidelis?
